Real Madrid 1 – 1 Girona: Catalan minnows force the league leaders to drop points
Super sub, Stuani, keeps his fantastic record against Los Blancos
Real Madrid failed to keep their lead and fell into a draw 1-1 in what was a hard battle against Girona in match week 12 of LaLiga Santander.
The visitors (started the game in the 19th position) displayed courage through their performance against the current leader of the league, and they had 2 big chances to score, both were missed by Valentin Castellanos and Yangel Herrera.
It took the hosts 70 minutes to open the score through Vinícius Júnior, to take the lead in an important moment of the game.
The substitute, Cristhian Stuani, leveled the score through a penalty kick in the 80th minute, just after three minutes of his introduction in the field as a replacement for Valentin Castellanos.
Since 2017/18 season, no player has scored more goals away from home against Real Madrid in LaLiga Santander than Girona’ Christian Stuani (4).
The hosts though they have won the game when Rodrygo scored a goal in the 89th minute, but the goal was ruled out because the goalkeeper was fouled by the Brazilian attacker.
Things get worse for the hosts as Toni Kroos had to leave the field after receiving his second yellow card in the first minute of the added time. that was the first red card for the German in 426 games in LaLiga Santander and Bundesliga appearances.
The draw means that Real Madrid (32 points) will keep their top spot with just one point separate them from Barcelona, while Girona earned their 10th point this season, to move up to the 16 position in LaLiga Santander standings.
