Crystal Palace 2 – 1 Wolverhampton: Back-to-back wins for “The Eagles”
By Maria Mark
Tuesday’s Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton ended in a 2-1 victory for Crystal Palace thanks to Wilfried Zaha’s fifth goal of the season. After falling behind to a rare goal from Adama Traore in the 31st, Palace quickly leveled the score with a header from Eberechi Eze, and Zaha then scored the game-winning goal in the 70th.
After defeating Leeds 2-1, Palace won at home for the second time in a row to move up to 10th place. Meanwhile, managerless Wolves remained just one point and one position above the relegation zone.
Wolves seized the lead after Hugo Bueno, making his full debut, provided a beautiful cross to an unmarked Traore, after Palace nearly took the lead in the fourth minute when Cheick Doucoure’s long-range drive hit the post. The winger’s goal was just his second league score since May 2021, going into the bottom right corner.
After Joel Ward and Daniel Podence collided in the air and the Wolves winger needed medical attention, there was a pause.
He was cleared to continue, and the Palace captain received a booking as a result of the incident.
Prior to the break, frustrated hosts had a chance to tie the score through Zaha, but he missed with his effort. In stoppage time, Palace received a small reprieve when Ruben Neves’ free kick bounced off the right post.
Within two minutes of regaining possession of the ball, the hosts struck back. Eze headed in the equalizer for his second goal of the season after receiving a cross from Michael Olise at the back post.
Before setting up Zaha in the center of the area, Odsonne Edouard’s bicycle kick went just wide of the right post. The Ivorian attacker delivered a controlled shot into the bottom left corner after an assist from the French striker.
