Boost for Wolverhampton as their managerial target is back in contention

Wolves hope to have Julen Lopetegui in the dugout next week

Wolverhampton have been handed a boost after a report reveals they could complete their old pursuit by securing the services of Julen Lopetegui later this week.

the ex-Sevilla was relieved of his duties following the La Liga side’s 4-1 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund on the 5th of October.

The Spanish head coach was the original plan for the Premier League team to replace the sacked, Bruno Lage, earlier in the last month, but personal reasons (to care for his father, who is suffering with poor health) ruled out and possible move.

The former Real Madrid boss left Sevilla after guiding them to Europa League success in 2020. He also led the club to three fourth-place finishes in La Liga and broke their record for most points in a season when they accumulated 77 points in 2020-21.

Wolverhampton tried their luck with another managerial targets, but they failed to bring any successor for lage, as Steve Davis and James Collins remained in charge as Caretakers and have picked up four points from five matches in the Premier League.

Now, according to telegraph, Lopetegui is back in talks over the role of head coach and it is understood Wolves are increasingly confident of making a breakthrough for their No 1 target in the next few days, as the negotiations are now progressing well, and could be officially confirmed next week.
